When dating someone, there are certain expectations of you as a man. This could be financial obligations you must meet to make them happy. Some might argue that money isn’t essential for a successful relationship, but reality proves otherwise. Traditionally, men are required to provide for their partners, especially women, in a relationship. So, it becomes a problem when a man can’t offer his woman the financial security she needs.

This article isn't about making men feel little, but about pointing out the reality, highlighting an essential ingredient in a modern-day relationship. Let’s look at 10 reasons why broke men shouldn’t be dating.

1. Stress Builds Up

A lot of relationships crumble due to a lack of money. A man who doesn't have money feels threatened by expenses. You anticipate those stress triggers even before they occur. When those issues continuously stress you, your relationship won’t be fun. Tension and anxiety will be familiar emotions.

Since you don't have money, you’ll always worry about things. Instead of nurturing a meaningful connection with your partner, you'll be thinking about your lack of money. With such stress at hand, it's only a matter of time before your relationship hits the rock.

2. Incapable of Taking Care of Someone Else

A broke man can hardly take care of himself. Asking him to take care of someone else is an issue. Unfortunately, that responsibility falls on you in a relationship. There's just so much going on in your mind: providing food, shelter, healthcare, etc. With all these issues in mind, it’s difficult to think of your partner and put their needs before yours. Your relationship can only thrive if you prioritize your partner's needs as much as yours. It's not feasible to give them the best when you haven't given it to yourself.

3. Limiting Your Dating Experience

To make your relationship fun, you need to do fun things such as going out and exploring the world. It’s almost impossible to engage in these activities when broke. You’ll love to have fancy dinners and exotic getaways, won't you? But without money, you can only dream of them.

People often say that one doesn’t need all the money in the world to have a meaningful relationship, but if we're being honest, money goes a long way in giving a relationship meaning. If you can’t afford many things, your experiences in that relationship are very limited.

4. Feeling Resentful

Financial instability could make you rely on your partner for your needs. You won't be able to do little things on your own. Whenever the need to pay for expenses arises, you turn to your partner, expecting them to do it.

While this might be okay at first, it eventually causes resentment. You might begin to resent your partner for your incapacity. On the other hand, they might resent you for leaching on them. Even if they love you, there comes a time when they might start to feel like you are taking advantage of their feelings for you.

5. They Deserve Better

Modern-day relationships require both parties to chip in, even without being asked.  As a broke man, you can’t rise to the occasion of supporting your lover financially. Going on dates and buying them gifts will be a problem. Denying your partner the opportunity to be pampered is unfair. They might express their dissatisfaction and that could cause conflicts between you two.

6. Breaking Your Self-Esteem

Broke men shouldn't be dating because they often struggle with their self-esteem. He can't feel confident without having money in his pocket or your bank account. When your self-esteem is broken, it takes a toll on your relationship.

Insecurity due to a lack of money creates a feeling of inadequacy, making you feel like you don't deserve your partner. When you have that mindset, you can’t show up authentically and give them your best.

A man who doesn't feel good internally isn’t of much use to someone else. No matter how much you try to hide your insecurity, your partner can sense it, and it will create a gap between you two.

7. Inability to Make Future Plans

It's normal for couples to make plans about their future. While married couples might make more plans, single couples do too, especially if they intend to be together for the long haul. Such plans include getting a house together, going on vacation, or even beginning a family. Doing any of these things requires money.

As a broke man, you can't have these conversations confidently because you know you don't have the means to make them happen. Your partner might be interested in talking about these things and making plans. However, your lack of money could upset you whenever they want to have those conversations, causing problems.

8. Causing More Issues

Men are naturally egoistic. Even without being told, you might want to spend money on your woman or acquire certain things for her. Not being able to do that will take a toll on you. You might be forced to borrow money from others to impress her, leaving you with debts.  Not only will you have to deal with a lack of money in your relationship, but you must also deal with the debts that you have accumulated in trying to be there for your partner.

9. Affecting Your Mental Health

You either have money or you don't have it. When you are broke, the smallest things seem expensive, not because they are, but because you can't afford them. Dating can be expensive because you need money to do things.

When you're broke as a man, even sitting at home with your partner might not be fun. To sit at home, you need to engage in certain activities. For instance, you need to watch movies. You require money to pay electricity bills and subscribe to platforms for movies. Your inability to do these things will affect your mental health.

10. Improve Your Finances First

It’s only wise that a man sorts his finances to a certain level before getting into a relationship. There's a sense of pride in providing for yourself and your other half. If you find little things expensive, it's an indication that you need to work on your finances to a point where you can afford them without getting anxious or complaining.

Money Makes a Relationship Easier

As much as you want to fall in love and share your life with someone else, doing that without money isn’t very wise; you’ll be putting a lot of pressure on yourself. While money shouldn’t be the focus in a relationship, it can't be overlooked. With money, it's easier to love someone and be there for them. It's easier to show them how you feel. Providing for your partner and giving them financial security make you proud of yourself.
