10 Reasons Why You Are Better Off Single

According to society’s standards, being in a relationship is the number one goal in life. With marriage in mind, young people are encouraged to have intimate relationships once they come of age. They are made to believe that sharing their lives with another is the gateway to happiness.

It's almost like your life is meaningless if you are single. But that’s flawed. While a relationship can be fulfilling for some, it's unfulfilling for others. Some people are better off being single because it makes them happier than being in a relationship.  If you just ended a relationship or have been single for a long time, and are concerned about it, you shouldn’t be worried for the following reasons.

1. Understand Yourself Better

Singlehood presents you with an opportunity to know and understand yourself better. This is a time to thoroughly search your soul and discover things that mean the most to you. You get to seek and explore your interests, doing only what you fancy with no partner making you do what they want.

There’s no pressure to please a lover because you don’t want to hurt their feelings. Acquiring new skills also helps you understand yourself better. Sometimes, you may have certain abilities but may never know because you haven't tried them.

2. Fly Freely Like a Bird

Flying freely like a bird is the true definition of being single. You don't need to seek permission from anyone to go wherever or do whatever you want. You are the only one in the picture, so you can do as you please without guilt of neglecting anyone.

This absolute freedom enables you to live life on your own terms. You may visit your friends on the weekend, go out late, or agree to last-minute arrangements without checking in with someone else. This spontaneity makes your life more exciting.

3. Manage and Control Your Finances

Finances ruin many relationships. Issues about earnings, contributions, and spending strain the relationship until it snaps. One partner might feel like they are pulling more weight and want the other to step up. This could come across as insulting to the other partner, leading to arguments and fights.

When you're single, you control your money, doing whatever pleases you with it. You can start any job or business of your choice to earn your desired income. Such autonomy allows you to spend your money on your terms. This includes buying items you like no matter how expensive they may be. You don’t have to justify the costs to anyone.

4. Build Meaningful Connections

As a single person, you have more freedom to make friends compared to someone in a relationship. There’s no partner to tell you who you can befriend and how to manage your friendships.  Having absolute control over your social life puts you in environments you like and places that make you thrive.

There’s also the freedom to connect with loved ones as often as you want, having fun and engaging in meaningful activities. You can be there for them when they need you and they can reciprocate the gesture easily when there’s no lover in the picture.

Singlehood allows you to build a valuable social network that benefits you as you navigate society. When you have access to influential people, the quality of your life will improve drastically.

5. Protect Your Emotional Wellbeing

Relationships are emotionally demanding. You must deal with your partner’s emotions even when you don’t feel up to it because they are in your life. This means splitting your emotional energy to accommodate them.

When you are single, you have less emotional drama in your life. You can focus on your emotional well-being, making it a priority. The absence of drama in your life puts you in a healthy emotional state of mind where you can think clearly and feel good.

6. Choose Not to Settle

Some intimate relationships can be bad. Regardless, many people put up with them because they are scared of being alone and are afraid of what society would say. When you're single, you can be more selective about the kind of partner you want to be with. You don't have to settle. Living life on your terms can be your mantra.

Making peace with being single leaves no room for toxicity. When you are happy being single, you know your worth and you won't settle for less. If a potential partner doesn't meet your standards, you can let them go.

7. Prioritize Your Physical and Mental Health

A single person stands a better chance to prioritize their physical and mental health. You can create time to exercise to keep fit. Whether it’s hitting the gym, working out at home, or running outdoors, you can make time for it.

Dieting is something you can take more seriously as a single person. You can eat whatever you want because it's just you in the house. You don't have to eat foods you don't like because of a partner.

8. Achieve Your Goals Better

When you're single, you have all the time in the world to pursue your dreams and aspirations. They have more chances of coming to fruition because you can focus more on them.  Utilizing your time to chase your dreams helps you to advance toward them. In no time, they will become a reality.

Achieving your goals boosts your self-confidence. Ticking off items on your bucket list makes you feel better about yourself and enhances your self-esteem.

9. Indulge in Self-Care

One of your priorities as a single person is to take good care of yourself. You can pamper yourself as much as you want without anyone telling you that you are doing too much or not doing enough. Be it going to the spa,  having exotic dinners, or traveling on vacation, you can do it as long as it makes you happy.

The pressure to please others reduces drastically when you are single. You are the only one in the picture, so you don't have to pretend to make someone else happy.

10. Do You

There's no better time to do you than when you're single. Your life is completely yours to do as you please with it. You define what happiness means to you and live according to your definition. You don't have to make compromises for a partner. It’s the time to do things at your own pace and time.

The freedom to live without pressure or judgment helps you to become the best version of yourself. Your life will be more meaningful and fulfilling with each passing day.

Live Your Best Single Life

Society continues to undermine singlehood regardless of the toxicity in many intimate relationships. It's okay to be in a relationship and it’s okay to be single as well. If you desire to fall in love with someone else, you can have that. Use your single time to develop and know yourself better. Until you understand who you are, you can’t make others understand you.
