Simple ways to make people like you

Dealing with people and winning their affection isn’t the easiest thing in the world as humans can be unpredictable, and sometimes, difficult to please. But like having the right keys to a door, there are certain habits that can be adopted, if you want to make people like you.

1. Be a good listener

Everyone has a story to tell, and are looking for who will give them a listening ear. Most times, people’s friends and family, don’t pay attention to the things they have to say, so whenever they find someone who can do that for them, they are always happy and are quick to like them.

2. Be patronizing

Want to get into the good books of that person? Be their number one fan. And by that, I mean that you should love almost everything about them. Shower compliments on them like heavy rain. When they look good, tell them they do, and when they have something you like, let them know.

3. Say the right things at the right time

It’s pretty simple – tell people what they want to hear, and you’ll be their friend. Often times, people know the truth about their actions, but they seek patronizing opinions from people. Don’t act the jury and cast the “truth” on the table; that won’t do you any good. Being diplomatic with your words and advice is a good way to make people like you. My Naija people call it being a “Famzer”.

4. Show interest and attention

Most times, we assume that people already have enough attention from those who are close to them, but that isn’t always the case. Most of the most popular and cool people have lots of acquaintances but not friends.  So when you give them attention and show genuine interest in them, they will be drawn to you.

When you give the right signals, you’ll get the right message. People are either consciously or unconsciously open to connect with someone. There’s nothing wrong for you to want to make people like you; it’s better to be the guy everyone likes or the girls everyone likes than be the one they hate. We’d love to hear your views.
