When it comes to the somewhat mandatory ‘ritual’ of getting married, men are usually reluctant ones. This may seem sexist in a way, but the pressure of tying the knot and saying the much anticipated “I do” is heavily placed on the woman, while the man goes about his life like it’s no man’s business. But there’s just how far that will last. There comes a time in his life when the bells begin to ring loudly in his ears. And when that happens, he begins to look for wife material.
Here are five signs of an eligible Bachelor.
• He’s 30 years and above
There’s a limit to how far a man can enjoy his single days. As he clocks the big 30, it becomes odd for him to be without a wife. Wherever he goes, people expect to see his “Mrs.” beside him. They begin to make comments like “you know you are not getting any younger.” At first, he may not be bothered, but trust me, it won’t last for long.
• He has a good job
A man in his thirties and not married can be excused when he doesn’t have a job. As much his family and friends want him to become a husband and father soon, they don’t want him to starve anyone to death because he cannot pay the bills. But the moment that average paying job comes along, it’s evident that he can take care of a woman, there are no more excuses. “What are you waiting for?” becomes the question on everyone’s lips.
• His younger ones are grown up
If he’s the first son or has younger ones after him, it becomes his responsibility to train them in school, especially when their parents aren’t around or financially incapable. So, when he trains them through university and they graduate, he has played his own part and is certified to start his own family.
• He lives comfortably
Nigerian men are hard-working, no doubt. When the money hasn’t arrived yet, they’d rather go through the suffering alone. He wouldn’t want to start a family when he can’t take responsibility like a real man. When he has a decent apartment, one or two cars, and can pay his bills without worries, he begins to consider the thought of getting married.
• All his friends are married
This is a sure sign for a Naija bachelor to do the needful. When everyone is his clique has a “Mrs.” He’ll begin to feel like the ‘small boy’ amongst them. And trust me, that isn’t a good feeling for an African man’s ego. If the people close to him, who are likely within the same age range as him are married, then it’s a signal that something is wrong somewhere.
These are just some of the signs of an eligible Nigerian Bachelor. At first, they couldn’t care less about joining the Married Men’s Club. But when the clock ticks to the right age and circumstances in life balance well for them, they’d be left with no choice but to propose to the woman of their dreams. And then, finding the right woman becomes their priority.
