The teenage phase is one that we all go through when we are blessed with the gift of life. It might be just a few years, but it plays a significant role in shaping our lives, and how we eventually turn out - either good or bad. And to a large extent, our knowledge of life lessons as Teenagers contributes to how that plays out.

I remember feeling like the world was at my feet, growing up as a Teenager in Nigeria. I felt so great. The word “impossibility” didn’t exist in my world. For some reason I still can’t fathom, I felt like I could be whatever and whoever I wanted to be. It was indeed a great moment.
If you are a Teenager, here are some life lessons that could help you turn out great.

1. S3x is overrated

This is probably on your list of “the most important things in life.” Society isn’t helping in that regard as everywhere you turn, you are confronted with sexuality and sexually suggestive things. Being at your peak of curiosity, you can’t wait to have that experience. Here’s the thing, it’s isn’t such a big deal – it’s way overrated. The few minutes of ecstasy it gives you, doesn’t change the problems in the world or make the world a better place.

2. Life isn’t a bed of roses

You are probably viewing life through lenses tainted with ease because you have parents or guardians who cater to your every need and ensure that you are comfortable, but it isn’t so in the real world. Good things don’t fall from the sky, they are earned. Sometimes, you may not have any roses.

3. People owe you nothing

Being a Teenager, you might feel entitled to so many things and expect people to grant you your wishes, but that isn’t applicable in the real world. Besides where your parents are concerned, your feelings of entitlement don’t hold water. People aren’t obligated to do anything for you - don’t feel disappointed when you don’t get any favours or free meal tickets.

4. Hard work  pays

This is an important life lesson that shouldn’t be taken for granted as a Teenager. In movies, people get lucky - achieve their dreams and become wealthy overnight- That may still happen in life, but luck doesn’t come through that often. Most times, you get what you desire through hard work. While it’s okay to play and have fun, make out time to work towards achieving your dreams and aspirations.

5. Life isn’t always fair

Ideally, things are supposed to work out in order of fairness – you ought to get what you deserve or worked for. But sadly, sometimes, the reverse is the case. You may not always get what should rightfully belong to you; bad things happen to good people. You aren’t cursed or anything like that - that’s just how life works.

It’s okay to have big dreams as a young person, and those dreams are very valid. You can be whatever you want to be. However, the realest life lessons require you to be true to yourself and work for whatever you desire for it won’t be handed over to you on a platter of gold.
