Mariah Carey Criticized for Performing in Angola

The Human Rights Foundation seems to have issues with American superstar, Mariah Carey’s two hour performance at a Red Cross Gala on Sunday, December 15, 2013 in Angola. The glamorous event was sponsored by Unitel, a telecommunications company owned by Isabel dos Santos, daughter of Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos. Jose dos Santos has been President since 1979. According to them, the President is a dictator and human rights violator. And as such, Mariah Carey shouldn’t have accepted the offer.
Mariah Carey was reportedly paid over $1m for her performance.
See excerpts from the Human Rights Foundation’s statement after the cut:

“Mariah Carey can’t seem to get enough dictator cash, reportedly more than $1 million this time. Just five years ago she performed for the family of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi. Now, she goes from private performances to public displays of support and credibility for one of Africa’s chief human rights violators and most corrupt tyrants. It is the sad spectacle of an international artist purchased by a ruthless police state to entertain and whitewash the father-daughter kleptocracy that has amassed billions in ill-gotten wealth while the majority of Angola lives on less than $2 a day."
I don’t understand how Mariah Carey’s “hustle” affects them. Would the Human Rights Foundation give her the money if she didn’t accept the offer? I tire! What do you think?
